The Beauty Of Cooking In A Small Kitchen

Now that the Great British Bake Off is back, people all over the UK will be tuning in every Wednesday to see the spectacular fails and successes of this year’s amateur bakers – judged by our national treasure Mary Berry and master baker Paul Hollywood.

The team at Shelfstore are massive fans of the show, and as we were watching the first week’s episode it got us thinking about how the contestants cope with working in such a small space.

Like their space, there are many small kitchens out there – and some of us may find the lack of elbow room when baking, or lack of storage space, a challenge! However, small kitchens also have some advantages that you’d never get when working in a large kitchen. Here are just a few reasons why you should be proud to cook in one…

1. Everything is right at your fingertips

Whether you’re stirring a pot on the stove, or mixing your ingredients together for your next creative bake – you’re never more than a few steps away from any other area in the kitchen. This means that everything will be close to hand, so you won’t have any problems adding in those last minute ingredients.

2. You’ll learn how to keep organised

Learning what to buy, keep and get rid of is not an easy thing. But thanks to working in a small kitchen, you’ve probably absorbed these rules a lot better. You’ll know what you need to buy as well as what you don’t need to – and will have specific places to store them. You’ll enjoy knowing and being able to see exactly what you have at a glance, and it will make you stop to think twice before bringing anything home you don’t need.

3. Make every bit of storage count

When it comes to the amount of storage space you have – you’ll do your best to make sure that every bit of it is being utilised. What some see as an empty corner – you’ll see as an opportunity. You won’t regret finding new ways to make the most of your kitchen space whether you’re making the most of your walls for storage and/or shelving or doubling on your cupboard space.

So just think if it wasn’t for your tiny kitchen, you may have never been able to master any of these habits!
